Question 1

How much is a turbocharger for a FORD Transit?

Accepted Answer

An exchange turbocharger for the FORD Transit starts at €225.00. This model takes 22 different references depending on the engine and the production period; the price shown is the lowest of them.

Question 2

Which turbocharger reference fits a FORD Transit?

Accepted Answer

A FORD Transit does not take a single reference: 22 references coexist depending on the engine and the production period. The code read on the removed part is what names yours — not the vehicle's trade name, nor its year.

Question 3

Why are several turbocharger references offered for the Transit?

Accepted Answer

Because one model covers several engines, and one engine may have been built with different turbochargers depending on the production period or the original supplier. Each of the 22 references matches a precise variant of the vehicle.

Question 4

Where is the reference found on a turbocharger removed from a FORD Transit?

Accepted Answer

It is on the riveted plate of the centre housing, on the compressor side. The plate holds the marking even on a part coated with oil and soot. It is the only reading that confirms the match with the reference expected on a FORD Transit.

Question 5

How do I find out which engine my Transit has?

Accepted Answer

The registration document states the version and the rated power of the vehicle; the engine code itself is stamped on the block. That engine-and-power pairing places the car within the Transit range, and leads to the right turbocharger reference.

Question 6

Is the year of my Transit enough to choose the turbocharger?

Accepted Answer

No. Two Transit of the same year can take different turbochargers depending on their engine. It is the engine-and-power pairing that determines the reference, and the code on the removed part that confirms it.

Question 7

What happens to the old turbocharger from my FORD Transit?

Accepted Answer

The part ordered is sold as an exchange unit: it has already been remanufactured and balanced, and the turbocharger you remove from the Transit goes back into the reconditioning circuit. Return terms are stated at checkout.

Question 8

How does an exchange turbocharger differ from a new part?

Accepted Answer

An exchange turbocharger is an original part restored to working order: wear parts are replaced and the rotating assembly is rebalanced. It carries the same reference as the turbocharger removed from the Transit and fits in its place.

Question 9

How do I spot a worn turbocharger on a FORD Transit?

Accepted Answer

On a FORD Transit, a turbocharger nearing the end of its life shows up as a loss of power under acceleration, smoke at the exhaust, a whistle rising with engine speed and a drop into limp mode. These signs overlap with other intake faults: diagnosis is a job for a qualified technician.

Question 10

Why does my Transit go into limp mode?

Accepted Answer

The ECU of the Transit limits the engine when it no longer finds the boost pressure expected for the engine fitted. A turbocharger that no longer regulates pressure correctly is one possible cause, alongside an air leak or a faulty pressure sensor.

Question 11

Does a whistle under acceleration always come from the turbocharger?

Accepted Answer

No. The whistle can come from the turbocharger itself, but equally from a leak on an intake hose, the intercooler or the wastegate. Noise alone is not enough to condemn the part.

Question 12

Is the turbocharger on a Transit a variable-geometry unit?

Accepted Answer

Diesel engines take a variable-geometry turbocharger, whose movable vanes adapt boost to engine speed — it is the part that seizes most often on that type of engine. Petrol engines use other architectures. The code read on the removed part says which one a given Transit carries.

Question 13

How do I confirm the fault before ordering a turbocharger for the Transit?

Accepted Answer

By a fault code read and a boost pressure check, carried out by a qualified technician, before any order for a FORD Transit. That check separates a failed turbocharger from an air leak or a faulty sensor — three faults with similar symptoms but different remedies.

Question 14

Can I order a turbocharger for the Transit without knowing the exact reference?

Accepted Answer

The 22 references on this page cover the engines fitted to the Transit: the choice is made by reading the code on the removed part. Without that reading, the exact engine of the vehicle has to be identified before ordering.

Question 15

Does a turbocharger ordered for a FORD Transit fit straight on?

Accepted Answer

Yes, provided the reference is the original fitment for the engine in the Transit: it keeps the dimensions, the mounting and the connections of the part removed. Fitting is a job for a qualified automotive technician.
